This Tennessee style percussion longrifle features a .50 caliber Green Mountain barrel. The rifle has a handmade appearance and is stocked in walnut with heat blued iron furniture. This handy rifle will be perfect to carry into the woods while hunting. Weighing in at 7.9 pounds the rifle has a trigger reach of 14" making the gun well suited for today's average or taller size shooter.

The Green Mountain .50 caliber 36" barrel is 7/8" straight octagon is finished to a smooth chocolate brown. The bore is bright and in well maintained condition. The .50 caliber bore is rifled with eight equal lands and grooves with a 1 in 70" twist for a tightly patched round ball. We recommend our .490" pure lead round ball, patched with .015" Ox-Yoke patching, lubricated with our Mink Oil tallow patch grease, if you require best accuracy. Green Mountain Muzzle Loading Rifle Barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained. The top flat of the barrel has been marked WTB, for the late W.T. Birmingham. A flat top rear sight has been dovetailed 9" ahead of the breech. A low brass blade front sight is dovetailed 1" behind the muzzle.

The rifle is stocked in walnut that has been stained a nice medium brown. The stock has a few small handling marks from use. The hand made two piece iron buttplate has a gentle curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. The slender wrist is fitted with a long “lollipop" style breech plug tang that angles down from the barrel. Two bolts pass through the tang and stock to engage the triggerplate below.

The bottom view shows the iron toe plate that protects the delicate part of the buttstock when loading. The hand made trigger guard has classic Tennessee styling and is heat blued to match the toe plate and buttplate. The wooden ramrod is held in place by a skirtless entry pipe and two plain round forward pipes. All three pipes have been finished to match the other furniture found on the rifle. The ramrod is not fitted with any threaded tips to accept loading or cleaning accessories. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-36-10 to service this rifle. In true poor boy fashion, no muzzle cap is installed on this rifle. Two small tear drop shaped sideplates surround the dome head lock bolts that secure the lock on the opposite side. The buttstock is shaped with a small square cheek piece with three small incised molding lines.

Ignition is provided by the large Siler percussion conversion lock, which would be typical of a earlier flint rifle that was converted to percussion. The lock has been browned to match the barrel. The drum is well supported by the lock plate and is fitted with a 1/4-28 iron nipple. Tuned for best performance, this lock has fast time and will provide fast ignition.

The double lever double set trigger is correctly adjusted, to allow the lock to be cocked, or the trigger set, in any sequence. You may fire the lock with the triggers set, or unset, for target, or hunting. Adjust the screw between the two triggers, inboard to reduce set trigger release pressure, our outboard to require a stronger pressure. The set trigger can provide very light release, perhaps an ounce or two, for accurate aimed shooting during pleasant weather.

This percussion rifle is used with a few small handling marks. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. This simple handy utilitarian rifle will be a joy to carry in the woods. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
