Stocked in curly maple, this flint longrifle is trimmed in engraved brass furniture. The straight octagon .50 caliber Green Mountain barrel is mated to an L&R flintlock. The bore is bright and ready to shoot. Offered in used condition, the stock has a few minor handling marks. Simple and elegant, this longrifle captures the styling from the Golden Age of rifling building. Trigger reach is 14" to fit todays average size shooter well. The rifle weighs 9.5 pounds.

The straight 15/16" octagon 42" barrel by Green Mountain is cut rifled with an appropriate twist for a tightly patched round ball. Green Mountain barrels are stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained. The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The brown finish shows bright spots from normal handling and use, especially near the muzzle. A flat top rear sight is dovetailed 8-1/2" ahead of the breech. A silver blade front sight set in a copper base is dovetailed 1-1/2" behind the muzzle. The top barrel flat before the rear sight is signed G.A. Park.

The curly maple stock displays nice figure from the buttplate to the muzzlecap. Even though the stock is stained very dark, the undertones of the figure can still be seen. The stock shows minor handling marks from use. This rifle is trimmed in engraved brass furniture and carving which appears to be influenced by the work of George Schroyer. The top view shows the engraved octagon flats of the brass buttplate comb, which mirror the flats of the barrel. The comb is accented with raised carving long the wrist and transitions into incised carving that terminates in scroll designs. The flared tang of the barrel is retained by a single tang bolt. Four pins secure the barrel to the forearm. Raised engraving surrounds the tang and transitions into the lock panels.

The bottom view shows the engraved brass triggerguard, correctly mounted with pins. The engraved toe plate is retained with three small steel screws. The entry pipe is also engraved and matches the engraving on the two brass ramrod pipes that retain the 3/8" ramrod. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 8-32 threads to accept your loading and shooting accessories. A carved molding runs along the forearm from the entry pipe to just before the muzzle cap. A brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the wood. A square cheekpiece is shaped on the left side of the buttstock with scroll carving decorating both sides. An engraved sideplate is mounted with two lock bolts with engraved heads.

Sure-fire ignition is provided by this L&R flintlock. The lock has light engraving and is finished to a silvery gray. The lock plate is engraved G.A.Park. The lock sparks well and functions as it should. Double lever double set triggers may be set, or the lock cocked, in any sequence. Triggers fire set or unset, for target match shooting, or cold weather hunting with gloved fingers. This trigger is well tuned, with a light release, even when the triggers are not set.

Fast ignition is assured by the vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

This Golden Age Longrifle is ready to shoot, with a bright and well maintained bore. Perfect for your next hunt or Colonial reenactment. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund.
