Assembled by contemporary builder Kenneth Lincavage this pistol is a replica of an English Dragoon pistol. The .62 caliber smoothbore barrel is polished bright both inside and out. The walnut stock has been stained dark brown and was finished with a gloss varnish that was then rubbed back to produce the satin sheen now visible on the gun. This pistol is in as-new condition. Weight of the pistol is a mere 2.5 pounds and it fits comfortably into the average size mans hand. Originally produced prior to the French and Indian War, this pistol would make a great piece for an impression of that war or the American Revolutionary War.

The .62 caliber smoothbore barrel measures 10" long and is polished armoury bright. The bore is in unfired condition, it is bright and ready to shoot. A single wedding band runs around the breech end of the barrel. A single tang bolt engages the flared tang on top and threads into the trigger plate below. No sights are fitted on this military pistol, it is meant to point and shoot.

When viewed from above the raised beaver tail carving surrounding the tang can be seen. Behind the tang the grip of the pistol drops quickly away from the level of the barrel. The brass grip cap and triggerguard, as well as the ramrod pipes, are polished bright. A grotesque mask decorates the center of the grip cap. The triggerguard is pinned into position in the front, and a screw retains the grip rail. The backside view of the gun shows the brass sideplate. Two dome headed lock bolts pass through the sideplate to engage the lock opposite, holding both lock and sideplate in position. The extension of the grip cap that runs up the wrist, this is seen on both sides and is a common feature on military pistols of this era. The wooden ramrod is fitted with a flared brass loading tip. The ramrod is not threaded to accept any cleaning or loading accessories. We recommend our #PL-7-62 to service this pistol.

Ignition is provided by this small Queen Anne flintlock by Jim Chambers. The rounded plate, pan, and the elegant cock are of London's best style, popular from 1730 to 1770. Internally, this lock incorporates the famous small Siler parts, fine tuned for this lock. The tumbler and sear have bearing shoulders to minimize friction. The mainspring engages a cam action ramp, to minimize trigger release and accelerate lock time. The lock is finished bright to match the barrel. The lock is well tuned and sparks very well when fitted with a 3/4" knapped English flint #FLINT-ENG-6. The single trigger is pinned high for good leverage against the sear.

Fast ignition is assured by the direct drilled vent that has been coned from the inside, and is positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
