This antique flint lock belt pistol is stocked in walnut, and trimmed in iron furniture. This antique pistol has aged to a dark patina. The stock has a French influence with a neatly checkered grip with flared end. This pistol has a .58 caliber smoothbore octagon barrel, the bore is dark and heavily pitted. The walnut stock has repaired cracks through the lock panel and forearm.

The octagon pistol barrel is .58 caliber smoothbore and measures 5-1/4" long with a swamped profile. The barrel has aged to a silvery brown. The bore is dark and heavily pitted its entire length. A low flat top rear sight is formed on the front of the breech plug tang, no front sight is fitted. The left barrel flat is stamped 2? ??, we could not make out the last three numbers because they are covered by the stock.

The walnut stock shows many handling marks from over 200 years of use. The stock has a visible repaired crack through the lock panel that extends from the front of the rear sideplate up to the barrel channel. A 1" long repaired crack can be seen running back from the muzzle end of the forearm on the left side of the stock. The right side of the stock has a repaired crack extending from the barrel pin to up to the barrel. The grip is neatly checkered, and fitted with a domed iron buttcap. The iron triggerguard is retained with pins and has a speckled brown patina that matches the rest of the iron trim found on this pistol. The metal ramrod has a flared loading end, and passes through a one piece entry and ramrod pipe. Two bolts pass through separate sideplates to retain the lock on the opposite side.

The small flint lock has aged to the same dark brown patina as the barrel. The lock uses a 5/8" wide by 3/4" long flint. The direct drilled touch hole is well centered on the pan, and the breech plug face is grooved to the center of the plug. The lock has very good architecture with the flash fence placed at the rear of the barrel. A single trigger is pinned high for good leverage against the sear.
