Stocked in walnut, naturally finished to a medium brown, this flint longrifle is used with some handling marks on the stock and a few marks on the frizzen face. Trimmed in brass, the furniture has a few speckles of patina. The straight octagon barrel is finished to a dark brown. The large flintlock has a color case hardened finish. Manufactured by Davide Pedersoli & Co. of Italy. Made for a 5'10" to 6'2" shooter, this nice rifle has a trigger reach of 14-1/4" and an overall weight of 7.1 pounds.

This sleek flint longrifle is a .45 caliber with 39" browned octagon barrel. The bore is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist for a tightly patched round ball. The barrel is fitted with a iron front sight, and early traditional rear sight. The rear sight is positioned 11" ahead of the breech, about 2" behind the balance point, in the location much preferred by shooters with corrective lenses. The corresponding front sight is located 2" behind the muzzle.

This longrifle has a walnut stock with a Lehigh Valley influence with a gently curved comb and toe to triggerguard. The walnut stock has a few scattered handling marks on the buttstock. The buttplate has a gentle curve to engage the shooter's shoulder. No entry pipe is fitted, and no pins or lugs are needed, since rod pipe mounting screws mount the forend to the barrel. A molding along the forend ends with a relief at the muzzle, to allow your fingers to easily grip and remove the rod. No decorative muzzle cap or toeplate is used on Frontier rifles.

Our bottom view shows the sleek lines of the buttstock and lock panels. The polished brass triggerguard is surface mounted with a blued steel screw at rear, and a retaining pin at front. The triggerguard has a medium large bow, to accept the double set triggers. The sturdy ramrod is threaded to accept your 10-32 cleaning tools. The ramrod has a button jag mounted on the end. The back view shows the Kentucky rifle style cheek piece, and side panel. No sideplate, toeplate, muzzle cap, or ramrod entry pipe is fitted. This attractive longrifle is slender and graceful, due to its simplicity of design, an early American design feature.

The large rifle size flint lock is color case hardened in mottled colors. The lock sparks well, and the frizzen face shows a few scratches from spark testing. We always recommend using a leather jaw pad, with our #FLINT-ENG-7 best English gun flint. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers, in any sequence. Thus, this rifle will serve you well when hunting. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release. Turn it inboard, until the set feature is disabled, for use during very cold weather. Don't risk an accidental discharge. Numb fingers cannot feel the very light touch of this double set trigger, when set. When disabled, the rifle has a normal trigger release, probably about 4 pounds or a bit more, ideal for hunting. When enabled, you can set a very light trigger release, ideal for match shooting, or hunting small game in moderate weather. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. This vent is slotted to allow easy removal. We stock the spare #THL-DP vent liner for Davide Pedersoli rifles and pistols, should you ever need one.
