This InvestArm of Italy, for Cabela's, carbine barrel is fitted to a walnut stock with brass furniture. The early style Investarm stock was finished from a kit and is fitted with a brass patchbox, which differs from the cap boxes found on later models. The .54 caliber bore has been cut with a T/C style QLA muzzle. The first 1/2" of the rifling has been cut back to ease loading without the use of a short starter. A T/C tang mounted peep sight is fitted. Trigger reach is 14-1/4" to fit today's man size shooter. Weight is 6.8 pounds.
The barrel is 15/16" octagon, blued steel, 20" long. The .54 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The first 1/2" of the rifling has been cut back to ease loading without the use of a short starter. The top of the barrel is marked Cabela's, Inc. Sidney, NE.. The oblique flats are marked with the various black powder warnings, proof marks, caliber, and the serial number. The factory rear sight has been removed and the screw holes were left unpluged. A Thompson Center tang mounted peep sight is fitted. The blued steel bead front sight is located 1" behind the muzzle. The factory bluing on the barrel and tang have some light scratches from normal use.
The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
The early style Investarm stock appears to have been finished from a kit. The brass stands proud of the wood in most areas. All of the brass furniture has aged to a mellow patina and is mounted with blued steel screws. The stock is finished to a light tan color and still shows some light sanding marks. A 4" long bark inclusion is found on the right side of the forearm. The buttstock is fitted with an early style brass patchbox that opens by pushing downward on the front of the door. A blued steel sling swivel stud is fitted in the toe of the rifle. A brass sling stud is mounted to the single brass ramrod pipe. No sling is included with this rifle. The brown Delrin ramrod is fitted with brass tips threaded to accept both 8-32 and 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories, we note the ramrod is 1/2" short from being flush with the muzzle. The buttstock is shaped with an oval cheek for a right hand shooter. The single lock bolt passes through a simple flush mounted waster style sideplate.
The percussion lock is factory engraved, and color case hardened in mottled blues. This lock has a fly détente in the tumbler, for a smooth action with the double lever double set triggers. The lock has a strong mainspring, and the set triggers are adjusted to allow you to cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. The breech is fitted with a 6-.75mm stainless steel Hot Shot nipple for No. 11 percussion caps.
Used, this large caliber carbine has a handy length barrel, light weight, and sling mounts, making it an ideal hunting companion. The T/C peep will be ideal for shooter's with older eyes. Perfect for your next big game hunt! Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
