This antique double action revolver is marked BRITISH BULLDOG on the top strap. The revolver has a five shot cylinder and is chambered for a .44 caliber centerfire cartridge. Likely circa 1880 vintage, this revolver features checkered birdseye grips. The hand spring is broken and the cylinder will not rotate when the hammer is cocked or the trigger pulled when pointed straight or upward. The cylinder does rotate when pointed muzzle down.

The exterior surfaces have developed a dark brown pitted patina with only traces of the nickel plated finish remaining. The grips are checkered walnut, dry, with no cracks. The right side of the frame is marked 44 near the barrel, along with a possible proof mark that is faintly visible due to pitting. The cylinder has a Liege, Belgium proof mark on the back.

This double action revolver can be fired using the single action (cock the hammer first), or double action (pulling the trigger to cock the hammer). This antique revolver functions when pointed at the ground, but does not spin the cylinder when pointed upwards. This indicates a broken or missing "hand spring". The hammer is checkered for a secure grip while cocking.

The small kurled knob below the barrel is the ejector rod. Pull the rod toward the muzzle. It is caputured with a slot and spring on the cylidner pin. Once withdrawn rotate it toward the right side and it can be used to eject spent cartridges. To remove the cylinder, withdraw and rotate the ejector rod. The cylinder pin has a large notched plate at the end. Pull it toward the muzzle to until it is fully withdrawn. The cylinder can then be tipped from the right hand side of the revolver.
