This contemporary fowler is an example of the modern school of longrifles with a mid 19th century Plains rifle influence to the design. This 20 gauge fowler is stocked in figured walnut with a checkered wrist and forearm. The furniture is browned iron trim with a black horn forend cap. The L&R percussion lock is accented with gold washed engraving. The fowler was assembled by Michael Cory and is marked on the bottom flat of the barrel. Trigger reach is 13-3/4", to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is a modest 7.1 pounds, so you can carry it all day long.

The 20 gauge 30" octagon-to-round barrel has a .615" diameter cylinder bore. The cylinder bore barrel can be fired with either a patched round ball, or lead or Bismuth shot with traditional wads and cards. We recommend our 20 gauge wads and cards for this fowler barrel. The barrel is fitted with a silver blade front sight and has been finished to a dark brown.

The black walnut stock displays both pattern and figure through the comb of the stock. The wrist and forearm are both checkered in a modern design and pattern to provide the shooter with a secure grip. The buttstock is fitted with a mid-19th century buttplate with a modest curve to engage the shoulder. The triggerguard is a classic Hawken style with a large bow and curled grip rail. The forend of the fowler is very modern in style with squared sides and a short black horn forend cap fitted. The ramrod is fitted with a flared brass tip to seat wads and cards, it has no provisions to accept threaded accessories. The buttstock is shaped with a large oval cheek piece for a right hand shooter.

This rifle is fitted with a hooked breech and the barrel is secured with a single wedge key. To dismount the barrel place the lock at half cock. Remove the ramrod. Use a brass or hardwood drift to carefully push the wedge key past the underlug. Once clear of the lug the barrel can be lifted from the stock for easy cleaning, without risk of wetting the stock with black powder residue.

Ignition is provided by a L&R percussion lock. The lock has been finished to a dark brown with the engraved accents highlighted with a gold wash. The drum is well supported by the lock plate and is fitted with an Ampco bronze 1/4-28 threaded nipple. The single trigger is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear of the lock.

This contemporary percussion fowler will serve you well. The 20 gauge bore is bright and clean in as-new condition. The modest weight makes this 20 gauge fowler easy to carry in the field, or at the range. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted.
