This used Thompson Center New Englander .50 caliber percussion rifle is factory finished. The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The American black walnut stock has a few minor handling marks from field use. This will make a handy rifle for hunting in thick brush or dense forest. This rifle has a 13-3/4" trigger pull. Weight is 7.8 pounds.
This .50 caliber Thompson Center New Englander Rifle has a 26" tapered round barrel to reduce muzzle weight. The bore is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist for a patched round ball, or T/C Maxi ball. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. We recommend our .490" round ball, .015" lubricated patch over a charge of 70 grains of GOEX FFg black powder. Or the modest twist can be used with a conical Thompson Center Maxi-ball. This rifle is fitted with the factory v-rear sight that is adjustable for both windage and elevation, and a T/C bead front sight is dovetailed directly behind the muzzle. We note the top back of both sights have been painted white for better visibility.
The American black walnut stock is factory finished. The stock has only a few minor handling marks from normal field use. The buttplate is blued steel, to match the triggerguard. The triggerguard has a wide bow to allow easy access to the single trigger with a gloved hand. The single lock bolt has a blued steel washer style side plate. The factory black synthetic ramrod has blued steel tips with 10-32 threads. The buttstock is fitted with a sling swivel stud, and an additional stud is fitted to the rear ramrod pipe. No sling is included with this rifle.
The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.
Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. The lock plate has vibrant colors. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent. The single trigger provides a smooth release of the lock.
