This Traditions Mountain Rifle was assembled from a kit. The rife is stocked in beech, trimmed in brass furniture, and decorated with nickel silver oval inlays and capbox. The Maslin style flintlock is factory engraved and color case hardened. The barrel is browned and the bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. Trigger reach is 14-1/2" to fit today's taller size shooter. Weight is 8.4 pounds.

The .50 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The bore is rifled with a 1:48 twist to shoot patched round balls or conicals. The 32" barrel is fitted with a long rear sight that is screw adjustable for elevation. The front sight is a nickel silver blade with an iron base. The barrel is finished to a dark brown, while the tang is polished bright for contrast. The left oblique barrel flat is stamped with the safety warnings. The right oblique flat is stamped with the factory information and caliber.

This rifle is stocked in beech finished to a dull reddish-brown tone. The nickel silver capbox has a cam over center lid and opens and closes securely. The brass furniture shows light file marks that were not polished out during the build process. The triggerguard has a wide bow to accept the double lever double set triggers. The triggerguard is mounted with hight dome brass screws. The short tang anchors the hooked breech and is polished bright. Two steel keys retain the .50 caliber barrel. Remove the ramrod, withdraw the keys, and the barrel will lift out for easy cleaning. Clean it with hot soapy water, dry, oil, and re-assemble. The wooden ramrod is fitted with brass tips on both ends threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. A brass muzzle cap protects the end grain of the stock. The raised beaver tail cheekpiece is shaped for a right hand shooter. The two lock bolts pass through blued steel waster style sideplates.

The Maslin style flintlock has a fly detent in the tumbler, to allow the use of the double set triggers. The lock features a tiny internal screw, cleverly arranged to adjust sear engagement in the full cock notch. The stainless steel touch hole liner is properly positioned on the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. The double lever double set triggers are adjustable for both trigger release and backlash. The triggers are currently adjusted to fire from the set, or unset position. You can set the triggers before, or after cocking the lock. Unset the front trigger requires firm pressure. Once the rear trigger is set the front trigger is very light.

Assembled from a kit this rifle has a bore that is bright and has been well maintained. It will be perfect to carry in the woods on your next big game hunt. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund.
