The "cartouche" knife was one of the most popular trade knives in the American and Canadian fur trade from the 1760s to the 1850s and were offered throughout North American by the Hudson's Bay Company, North West Company, American Fur Company, and others. Our north west cartouche blade was copied from an original and has been faithfully reproduced for us by Russell Green River, U.S.A..

Build your own hand finished North West Cartouche knife using our #Blade-NW-06, walnut scales, and steel pins. Our knife kits include:

  • Our 9" North West Cartouche knife blade, has blade length of 6". This blade has been forged from .0625" thick carbon cutlery steel (not modern stainless steel) and has been properly tempered to sharpen quickly and hold an edge. Made in the U.S.A.

  • Pair of walnut handle scales, 3/8" thick by 1.5" x 5". Handles are unfinished, ready to accept stain, finish or sealer.

  • Set of three steel pins.
