This Pennsylvania longrifle is stocked in cherry stained maple with a deep reddish tone. Trimmed in brass furniture which has started to develop a mellow patina. The small Siler lock and straight octagon barrel are both finished to a dark brown. The rifle is unsigned as to a maker. With a 13-3/4" trigger reach and an overall weight of 8.9 pounds, this flint longrifle is setup for today's average sized shooter

The rifle is assembled around a .32 caliber by 44" straight 13/16" octagon barrel. The bore is cut rifled with eight deep grooves in a slow twist for patched round ball. The semi buckhorn rear sight is mounted 7-3/4" ahead of the breech. A nickel silver blade with brass base front sight is mounted 1-1/2" behind the muzzle. The barrel is finished to a dark brown with some visible wear on the flats from handling and firing.

The maple stock is very straight grain finished to a deep cherry red. The buttplate has a modest curve in late 19th century style. A brass patchbox is fitted with a cam over center door. The patchbox head is mounted with three steel screws, and has a few small nickel silver accents around the border. Inletting is fair on the patchbox with some gaps on the head and door. The wrist is fitted with thumbpiece in the shape of a acorn. The straight tang of the breech has some has some gaps in the inletting, and what appears to be epoxy bedding around the edges. The stock has a very squared forearm with defined sides and bottom. The forend has small brass inlays above the ramrod pipes. The forend is shaped with a raised molding along the edge of the ramrod channel. A muzzle cap protects the end grain of the stock, but the barrel extends 2" past the muzzle cap. The brass triggerguard is pinned into position, as is traditional. Forward on the gun the 5/16" ramrod is retained by two forward pipes and entry pipe. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The buttstock is shaped with a square cheek for a right hand shooter to comfortably align the sights.

A small Siler flint lock provides the ignition for the rifle. This Germanic influenced lock is finished to a dark brown with some minor wear from handling. We recommend our 5/8" knapped English flints for best performance in this lock. The rifle is fitted with a single lever double set trigger. You may cock the lock before setting the trigger, but the single lever design requires the trigger to be set to fire the lock. A direct drilled vent is positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
