large Siler flintlocks, maple, iron, by J.T. Phillips
Part Number: AAT-865
Availability: In Stock
Price: $2,499.00
This flint double cape gun has .50 caliber rifled and smoothbore barrels. The gun is stocked in maple with a warm brown tone, and trimmed in patina finished iron furniture. The right and left hand locks are larger Siler flintlocks. Unsigned this combination gun is attributed to J.T. Phillips. With a trigger reach of 14"”, the gun weighs in at 7/8 pounds, making it perfect for today’s above average sized shooter. The rifle is used with a few small marks on it.

The right hand barrel is a .50 caliber rifled bore, with eight lands and grooves with a slow twist for a patched round ball. The left hand barrel is a .50 caliber smootbore, and appears to made from DOM tubing, due to the seam visible in the bore. Both bores are bright and appear to be well maintained. The upper rib has only a bead front sight fitted. The barrels are finished to a dark brown with a few scattered rub marks from use. The barrels are pinned to the fullstock in longrifle fashion.

The maple stock is stained to a warm brown with a reddish undertone. The cape gun is trimmed in patina finished steel furniture with a Isaac Haines style Lancaster County, Pennsylvania patchbox. The patchbox is nicely hand engraved with a bold folk art style. The door has a spring catch at the base to release the door and reveal a shallow cut cavity. The buttplate is tall, with a very modest curve to spread the felt recoil over a large area. The triggerguard has a large bow with a curled grip rail, the bow of the triggerguard has decorative scroll engraving. The longrifle style ramrod pipes have paneled bodies with rings on the ends. The ramrod does not have any provisions for threaded accessories.

Right and left hand large Siler flints locks are fitted to this double gun. The locks have a classic Germanic style with a paneled pan, and pointed tail with decorative molding across it. The locks have the original gray factory bead blasted finish that has worn bright in a few areas from use. We recommend our 3/4" Tom Fuller English gun flints , #FLINT-ENG-6. for use with these locks. The locks are neatly positioned with the flash fence at the breech end of the barrels. The direct drilled vent holes are well positioned both horizontally and vertically on the pans, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint gun suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

A used cape gun, fitted with right and left hand large Siler flintlocks. The bores are bright and have been well maintained. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
