This .50 caliber Thompson Center Renegade Hunter is designed for the cold weather right hand hunter with a single trigger with a wide trigger bow for a gloved hand. This percussion rifle features a 26" long octagon barrel, walnut stock, blued steel furniture, and adjustable rear sight. This stock appears to have been refinished and the factory hammer has been replaced with an after market "quick cock hammer." The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Trigger reach is 13" to fit today's average size shooter, and the weight is 8.1 pounds.

The .50 caliber barrel is factory blued, 1" wide and 26" long. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is mounted with the later style bead front sight. The rear sight is adjustable, with screw adjustable windage and elevation. The barrel's exterior bluing has some bright spots and brown speckling in the finish. We recommend our #BALL-490 Hornady pure lead .490" round ball, #OX-15-50-D Ox Yoke .015" dry patch, #MINK OIL tallow lubricant, 70 grains of #GOEX-FFg black powder, and a No. 11 percussion cap for best accuracy. If hunting big game, in thick brush, try our T/C Maxi Ball. Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt.

The steel buttplate is nearly flat to help spread the felt recoil over a large area. The black walnut stock has been refinished and shows a few minor handling marks. The wooden ramrod is a replacement and the muzzle end is fitted with a blued steel tip threaded 10-32 for accessories. A blued sling swivel stud is mounted in the toe of the buttstock. A matching stud is fitted to the rear ramrod pipe for attaching a sling. No sling is included with this rifle. No cheek piece is carved on the T/C Renegade. The lock is retained by a single lock bolt with round, blued steel washer-style side plate.

The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the keys past the underlugs, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by an oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.

Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring. The factory hammer has been replaced with an after market "quick cock hammer" with long thumb spur. The longer thumb spur on the quick cock hammer is recommended for a right hand shooter only, due to the position of the hammer. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. The single trigger provides a smooth release of the lock.

Used, this T/C Renegade rifle is designed for a right hand shooter and has a bore that is bright and well maintained. It is perfect for your next big game hunt.
