This used Thompson Center RENEGADE .54 percussion rifle features a 26" long octagon barrel, walnut stock, blued steel furniture, double set triggers, percussion lock and adjustable rear sight. This used rifle has a very few small handling marks on the stock. The blue finish has a few small scratches, but does not show any heavy wear from repeated firing and cleaning. Trigger reach is 13-3/4" to fit today's average to taller shooter. The weight is 8.1 pounds.

The .54 caliber bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is mounted with the earliest style square "patridge" sights that many shooters prefer to the later bead sights. We recommend our #BALL-530 Hornady pure lead .530" round ball, #OX-15-50-D Ox Yoke .015" dry patch, #MINK OIL tallow lubricant, 70 grains of #GOEX-FFg black powder, and a No. 11 percussion cap for best accuracy. If hunting big game, in thick brush, try our .54 caliber Maxi ball Increase the powder charge as needed, to achieve best accuracy with this heavier bullet. Recoil will increase, but will not be noticed during the hunt. The breech of the barrel is stamped with T/C factory markings and serial number. The finish has a few bright scratches in the 4 to 7" range on the left hand upper quarter flat behind the muzzle.

The blued steel buttplate is nearly flat to help spread the felt recoil over a large area. The black walnut stock has a few small handling marks. The blue finish on the barrel, buttplate, and triggerguard are excellent. The factory ramrod is fitted with a blued steel ramrod tip with 10-32 threaded end for accessories. No cheek piece is carved on the T/C Renegade. Not to be confused with the T/C Renegade Hunter, this is the deluxe version with double set triggers. The lock is retained by a single lock bolt with round, blued steel washer-style side plate.

The tang has the factory drilled hole for a tang sight. The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the keys past the underlugs, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.

Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. Notice the bright rainbow of mottled colors. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. Correctly adjusted, you may cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. Turn the tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension. Or turn it fully inboard, to disable the set trigger feature, when hunting in very cold climates, where a numb finger might release the light set trigger too early. When training youngsters, we prefer to start with the set trigger disabled.

Used, this T/C Renegade rifle has a few handling marks on the stock. The blue finish is excellent, showing little evidence of use. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
