This 1740 era Potzdam Pistol is stocked in cherry and trimmed in brass furniture with a bright finish on the lock and barrel. The .66 caliber smoothbore is bright and has been well maintained. We note that the flintlock has a weak mainspring, it will not open the frizzen, and does not spark. The pistol was assembled from a kit produced in Japan by Miroku, and were offered by box stores as inexpensive Christmas gifts in the late 1970's.

The 15-1/2" tapered round smoothbore barrel measures .667" at the muzzle. The barrel is fitted with a brass front sight pressed into the barrel behind the muzzle. When viewed with a bore light, a small indent from the sight blade can been seen in the bore. No rear sight is fitted, which is correct for a military style pistol designed to be used at close range. The barrel has a direct drilled vent hole. The breech end of the barrel is turned with a wedding band design with a stepped-up flared tang. The left side of the barrel is stamped JAPAN along with the serial number.

This pistol is stocked in cherry finished to a light tan color. The brass buttcap is secured with a domed shaped buttcap retainer. The brass triggerguard is mounted with a pin and screw. An engraved brass thumb inlay decorates the top of the grip. A brass band protects the end grain of the stock at the muzzle. The tapered ramrod has a flared tip with no provisions for threaded accessories, in antique fashion. The brass sideplate is secured with two domed head lock bolts and a wood screw to secure the tail.

The flint lock is polished bright and is marked POTZDAM MAGAZ. We note that this lock has a weak mainspring, it will not open the frizzen and it does not spark. The internals of the lock are not polished and were left unfinished. The sear spring is a wire spring, which is common on Miroku pistol locks from the 1970's. The lock will have to be properly finished and tuned to make this pistol shootable. A single trigger engages the sear to release the lock.

This pistol will make a great display piece, or a fun winter project. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
