This .50 caliber Thompson Center Hawken percussion rifle is offered in used condition. This rifle was finished from a T/C kit and has a "K" in the serial number. The rifle is stocked in American black walnut with brass furniture, and blued 28" straight octagon barrel. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Weight is 8.3 pounds, and with a trigger reach of 14", the rifle is perfectly setup for today's average sized shooter.

The factory polished blued barrel is .50 caliber, 15/16" octagon, 28" length. The front sight is Thompson Center's blued steel bead sight. The rear sight is click adjustable for elevation, and screw adjustable for windage. In excellent condition, the bore is bright and clean, with crisp rifling grooves. The bluing has a few light scratches and brown speckling in the finish from use. We recommend our .490" round ball, .015" patch, and Mink Oil tallow patch lubricant, over a charge of 70 grains of GOEX FFg black powder. This rifle pre-dates the QLA muzzle and the bore is rifled all the way to the end of the muzzle.

The American black walnut stock is finished to a semi-gloss sheen. The stock has a few handling marks form use. The buttplate, patchbox, nosecap, and triggerguard are brass, which have aged to a mellow patina. We note the brass stands proud of the wood. The wooden factory ramrod is fitted with a brass tip threaded 10-32 to accept loading and cleaning accessories. The ramrod is retained by two round brass pipes. The single lock bolt has a round brass washer-style side plate. The beaver tail cheek piece is shaped for a right hand shooter.

Our top view shows the hooked breech, which allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.

Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. Correctly adjusted, you may cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. Turn the tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension. Or turn it fully inboard, to disable the set trigger feature, when hunting in very cold climates, where a numb finger might release the light set trigger too early.

Used, this kit rifle is ready to shoot. It has some handling marks, but is in overall good condition with a bright well maintained bore. It will serve you well in the woods this Fall or at the range! Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund.
