T/C Hawken Rifle,
.50 caliber, 32" Green Mountain barrel,
percussion, walnut stock, brass trim,
used, by Thompson Center Arms
Part Number: AAS-947
Availability: In Stock
Price: $599.00
This .50 caliber Thompson Center Hawken percussion rifle is offered in used condition. This factory finished rifle is stocked in American black walnut with brass furniture, and has a 32" Green Mountain drop-in octagon barrel. The bore is bright and ready to shoot. Weight is 9.0 pounds, and with a trigger reach of 14", the rifle is perfectly setup for today's taller sized shooter.

The Green Mountain barrel is .50 caliber, 15/16" octagon, 32" length. The bore is cut rifled with a 1 in 66" rate of twist to shoot a patched round ball. The front sight is a brass bead sight. The rear sight is click adjustable for elevation, and screw adjustable for windage. In excellent condition, the bore is bright and clean, with crisp rifling grooves. We note the breech plug has a few scuff and the barrel has a few bright spots in the finish. We recommend our .490" round ball, .015" patch, and Mink Oil tallow patch lubricant, over a charge of 70 grains of GOEX FFg black powder.

The American black walnut stock is stained to a warm brown. The stock has a few handling marks and scratches from use. The buttplate, patchbox, nosecap, and triggerguard are brass, which have aged to a dark mellow patina. The wooden ramrod is fitted with brass tips threaded to accept both 8-32 and 10-32 loading and cleaning accessories. The ramrod is retained by two round blued steel pipes. The single lock bolt has a round brass washer-style side plate. The beaver tail cheek piece is shaped for a right hand shooter.

Our top view shows the hooked breech, which allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.

Our lock view shows the color case hardened percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent to allow the use of double set triggers. Correctly adjusted, you may cock the lock, or set the trigger, in any sequence. Turn the tiny set trigger adjustment screw, between the two triggers, inboard to reduce the set trigger release tension. Or turn it fully inboard, to disable the set trigger feature, when hunting in very cold climates, where a numb finger might release the light set trigger too early.

Used, this rifle has some handling marks, but is in overall excellent condition with a Green Mountain drop-in barrel. It will serve you well in the woods this Fall or at the range! Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund.
