This .50 caliber High Plains Sporter rifle is offered in used condition with a well maintained bore. The rugged Rynite stock will give years, if not decades of service. The stock has a few light scratches on it from field use. This Thompson Center High Plains Sporter is late production, with the factory fitted black rubber recoil pad. Trigger reach is 13-5/8" to fit todays average size shooter. It weighs 7.5 pounds.

This Thompson Center High Plains Sporter rifle has a 24" tapered round barrel that is finished to a bright blue. The exterior finish has a few light scratches and blemishes from use. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is rifled with a 1 in 48" twist for a patched round ball, or a T/C Maxi ball. The barrel is fitted with a red fiber optic front sight. The factory Thompson Center green fiber optic rear sight is click adjustable for windage and elevation.

The hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning without risk of wetting the stock with water containing black powder residue. To dismount the barrel, put the lock on half cock, withdraw the ramrod, drift the key past the underlug, and the barrel can be lifted from the barrel channel for ease of cleaning. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle.

The black Rynite stock is in excellent condition, with only a few very minor handling marks. The trigger guard is wide to accept a gloved finger. The rubber recoil pad is stamped with the TC logo. The brown Delrin ramrod is a replacement, it is fitted with brass tips threaded to accept both 8-32 and 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. The rear ramrod thimble is fitted with a sling swivel stud. A stud is also installed in the buttstock. No sling is included.

Our lock view shows the matte black finished percussion lock, factory engraved by Thompson Center. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded stainless steel nipple. This lock works smoothly, with a strong mainspring, and fly detent. The trigger provides a smooth release of the lock.
