This antique Model 1885 Winchester High Wall Rifle has nicely figured walnut, color case hardened action, and 34" octagon-to-round Ahlman barrel with Hi-Lux 6x18 WM. Malcolm telescope. The rifle is chambered for .38-55 Winchester cartridges and the bore is bright. One of the first rifles designed by the famous John Moses Browning, of Utah, Winchester purchased his patent, and manufactured their popular Model 1885 Winchester Single Shot Rifle, more widely known as the High Wall Winchester. The trigger reach is 13-1/4" and this rifle weighs 13.4 pounds. Due to the production date of this action it qualifies as a antique and may be shipped directly to you with no FFL paperwork.

The 34" octagon-to-round Ahlman barrel is fitted with a Hi-Lux 6x18 Malcolm telescope. The barrel is octagon for the first 13" and round the last 21" of its length. The polished and blued barrel is in excellent condition with very few handling marks in the finish, from normal use. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. The left oblique flat is marked Ahlman and 38-55 WIN near the breech. A globe front sight with circle insert is dovetailed 1" behind the muzzle. The Malcolm scope is mounted to the barrel with two high mounts, and we note the finish is mostly worn off the mounts.

Stocked in figured walnut, the butt-stock and forend are stained and finished a nice brown tone with low glass finish. The stock has a few minor handling marks from use. The wrist and forend are un-checkered, and the wrist is shaped with a pistol grip. The endcap of the grip is color case hardened. The buttplate is also color case hardened, and shaped with a modest curve to absorb the recoil. The forend has a Schnabel shape at front with ebony tip.

The tang was factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight. The action is color case hardened, while the lever and hammer are blued. The lever works smoothly, and the extractor is positive. The hammer is cocked to full-cock, as the action is opened. The set trigger release is smooth. Push the trigger forward until it latches to set the trigger.

This single shot rifle is ideal for the serious reloader who wants to reach out and knock down targets at long distances. Fitted with a Malcolm scope, this rifle will be a joy to shoot at the range! Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
