This is an original copy of the Civil War book: 1861 Hand-Book for Active Military Service Containing Practical Instruction in Campaign Dutis for the Use of Volunteers by Egbert L. Viele. Published: New York : D. Van Nostrand, 1861.

This Civil War Manual is signed by its original owner, Willis G. Babcock, Oswego N.Y., and dated Nov. 1861. Willis G. Babcock enlisted October 6, 1861 at Oswego, NY at the age of 20 years. He was mustered in as a Sgt Co H, 64th NY Volunteer Infantry on November 4, 1861. On July 26, 1862 he was promoted to 1st Lieut Co G. He was killed on July 2, 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg.

This book is in excellent condition. The cover has minor tears along its spine. There are some light stains on a few of the pages. Perfect for a Civil War collector!
