This well made English fowler is stocked in English walnut, with a slender graceful appearance. Neatly assembled this fowler's architecture closely resembles a antique by Barbar shown in Of Sorts for Provincials by Jim Mullins, our #BOOK-OSFP. The reddish walnut, and brass furniture are accented with brass wire inlay on the buttstock, lock panels, and forearm. This fowler has a 13-3/4" trigger reach to fit todays average size shooter. Weighing in at 8.7 pounds, recoil should be manageable.

The 20 gauge, 41" tapered round barrel has a bright jug choked bore to pattern well with shot. We recommend our 20 gauge wads and cards for use with lead, or Bismuth shot. The tapered round barrel has a turned decorative band a the breech. A silver blade front sight is soldered to the front of the barrel. A brass blade rear sight is dovetailed 15-3/4" ahead of the breech. The barrel has been neatly polished and finished to a dark blue.

This well made fowler has classic English architecture, with a wide flat buttplate to spread the recoil over a large area. The English walnut has a deep red tone with a smooth finish with a satin sheen. Both sides of the buttstock are fitted with a brass inlay engraved with a floral design and silver wire inlay. Notice the flowing tapered baluster wrist with raised carving at the transition. The lock panels are gently tapered widest at the rear, a classic early feature. The top view shows the well fitted flared thumbnail tang, surrounded by a raise carved mounding. The raised carving is well executed with a clean backgrounds. The tang and breech have been neatly grooved to allow sighting down the plane of the barrel. The wrist is fitted with a brass thumbpiece with wire inlay border. The brass triggerguard is a fowler style with a flaming urn finial. A swivel button is mounted to the toe of the stock and the forward swivel correctly rests against the middle ramrod pipe. A woven sling with leather ends is mounted on this smoothbore. The forearm is shaped with a small palm swell at the ramrod entry pipe. The forend and forearm are both shaped with a thin and graceful appearance. Formed sheet brass ramrod pipes with raised rings secure the tapered ramrod with brass tip. The ramrod is threaded 10-32 for loading and cleaning accessories. The sideplate is hand engraved with a border and scroll designs.

The round faced flint lock, by Jim Chambers, provides reliable ignition. This attractive early English flint lock has a round faced cock and plate, and rounded frizzen and pan surfaces. Locks of this design are often found on American longrifles and fowlers of the 1730 - 1770 era. Commonly finished bright on antiques this lock has been finished to a dark blue. The tightly fitted lock mortise has a small cosmetic chip at the lower edge just above the sear of the lock, and along the upper edge of the tail. Fast ignition is assured by the stainless vent liner. Positioned well above the bottom of the pan and centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay. Study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

In lightly used condition this fowler has a few marks on the frizzen face and minimal wear on the finish from use. The fowler has excellent shaping with well fitted parts, the considerable amount of wire inlay is well done with smooth curves. Quality parts, classic styling, and a artistic hand have created an attractive fowler. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
