This percussion longrifle is stock in curly maple and trimmed in brass furniture. The L&R percussion Durs Egg lock and straight octagon barrel are both finished to a dark brown. The stock is decorated with raised moldings and bold raised carving behind the cheekpiece. Unsigned the rifle is attributed to Fred Stutzenberger and includes documentation that it was made circa 1984.

This percussion longrifle has a 13-3/4" trigger reach to fit today's average size shooter. It weights 9.9 pounds and holds very steady off hand if you can manage the weight.

The Green Mountain .50 caliber 37" barrel is 1" straight octagon. Rifled with eight equal lands and grooves with a 1 in 70" twist for a patched round ball. Green Mountain Muzzle Loading Rifle Barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained. We recommend our .490" pure lead round ball, patched with .015" Ox-Yoke patching, lubricated with our Mink Oil tallow patch grease, if you require best accuracy. A flat top rear sight is dovetailed 10" ahead of the breech. A nickel silver blade front sight with brass base is fitted behind the muzzle.

Stocked in maple, with a nice amount of curly figure, the wood has fine grain structure, and appears to be hard and dense. There are only a very few tiny handling marks on the stock, as you might expect from dense maple. The brass furniture has an early 19th century appearance with a gently curved buttplate and triggerguard with curved grip rail. Raised and incised carving defines the transition from comb to wrist. The buttplate comb is decorated with folk art engraving and the wrist has a brass inlay engraved with the initials J.C.. A raised panel surrounds the flared thumbnail tang of the breech plug. A raised molding extends the length of the forearm. The ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The brass sideplate is neatly shaped and hand engraved with a folk art style. The sideplate features a third screw on the tail, a throwback to earlier long guns with three lock bolts. The cheekpiece is shaped with a molded edge and accented with bold raised and incised carving.

Ignition is provided by the L&R Durs Egg percussion conversion lock, which would be typical of a earlier flint rifle that was converted to percussion. The lock has been hand engrave and browned to match the barrel; it sits nicely against the backdrop of the lighter colored maple stock. Tuned for best performance, this lock has fast time and will provide fast ignition. A stainless steel nipple is fitted to the drum. The single trigger with scalloped back is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear.
