This used Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Rifle, by Remington Custom Shop, has a bright well maintained bore. Stocked in walnut, the buttstock is shaped with a checkered pistol grip. This rifle is fitted with a vernier tang sight, and globe sight with spirit level. This rifle comes with a extra .45-70 barrel that was originally installed on the action. Trigger reach is 14" and this rifle weighs 11.2 pounds.

Chambered for the .45-90 cartridge. The tapered round barrel is 30" long. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. A globe front sight with spirit level is dovetailed 1" behind the muzzle. A mid-range vernier sight is fitted to the tang. No rear sight or dovetail for one is cut in the barrel. The barrel exterior is finished to a silvery blue and shows a few light marks from use. A extra .45-70 Gov't chambered barrel is included with this rifle. The barrel is dovetailed for a front sight, but is not fitted with one. A dovetail is cut for the forearm mounting lug, but one is not installed on the extra barrel. The original barrel is a slimmer profile than the barrel currently fitted, and the existing forearm has been fitted to the larger barrel.
Our front view shows the checkered steel buttplate, single set trigger, and classic appearance of the Remington Number 1 Rolling Block Action. Much stronger than a Trapdoor Springfield, the factory recommends shooting factory ammunition. We prefer black powder hand loads, for economy, accuracy, compliance with club match rules, and the pleasure of doing it the old way. Metal to wood fit is fair. The walnut buttstock is fitted with a blued steel checkered buttplate. The pistol grip is checkered, along with the schnabel tip forearm. The stock is finished a medium brown with satin sheen. The stock has a few small handling marks from normal use.
This nice single shot rifle has a strong mainspring. The hammer and breech block are blued steel and the hammer shows normal wear on the finish from operation. This rifle is fitted with a single set trigger, push the trigger forward to latch in the set position. Made with near perfect symmetry, only the finger spur of the breech block is offset to the right. Thus, this rifle is equally comfortable for a right or left hand shooter. The left side of the action is marked Remington RB1 Sporter along with the serial number in three lines.
This rifle will require load development, and fine tuning, for serious target competition. We enjoy casting bullets, hand loading black powder cartridges, and enjoyable afternoons at our local 100, 200, 400, and 600 yard range.
