This musketoon is assembled from a mixture of antique brass furniture with a modern lock, breech, and barrel by contemporary builder Richard Hansen. The musketoon s stocked in black walnut with blued steel barrel bands, buttplate, triggerguard, and a brass forend cap. The percussion lock is stamped C.S.A. over Fayettesville. This musketoon is as-new. Trigger reach is 13-5/8", weight is 9.2 pounds.

The 28" Whitacre barrel is tapered round with a patent style breech fitted. The .577 caliber bore is rifled with three wide lands and grooves with a 1 in 72" slow twist in mid 19th century military fashion. The bore is bright and appears as-new. The exterior of the barrel is finished bright and with regular use with age to a attractive patina. The barrel is fitted with a tall military style front sight. The breech end of the barrel is fitted with a ladder style rear sight for extended range shooting.

The American black walnut stock is sanded smooth in as new condition. The buttstock is fitted with a tall nearly flat buttplate to spread the recoil over a large area. The rounded comb of the buttplate is mounted with a large iron screw and stamped C.S.. Ahead of the comb the wrist moves up to the short rounded tang of the barrel. The breech of the barrel is stamped R. Hansen. Two barrel bands secured with band springs hold the barrel to the stock. The forward band has a integral sling swivel, while th rear swivel is mounted to the toe of the stock just behind the triggerguard. The triggerguard is s mid-19th century military style. This musketoon is fitted with a metal ramrod with a flared brass tip..

Made to appear as if it was manufactured by one of the small cottage industry makers that supplied the Confederacy. The Springfield style percussion lock is stamped CSA over Fayetteville on two lines below the breech. The lock has a color case hardened finish. Internally the lock is assembled with 1873 Trapdoor Springfield parts, with the three position tumbler. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded nipple for a musket cap.
