This Zephyr Underhammer Rifle, is a replica of the underhammer rifles most often made in New York or New England States. This utilitarian, large bore rifle is designed to hunt large game with its' 20 gauge bore (.62 caliber). The browned action has a fire blued hammer and screws. The barrel is finished to a dark blue with steel pipes mounted directly to the barrel. The English walnut stock if finished to a smooth satin sheen, and only a few tiny handling marks.

This underhammer rifle has a 30" straight octagon barrel with a muzzle break. The barrel is Forsythe rifled in a 1 in 104" twist for patched round balls. The .620" diameter bore is rifled with eight wide grooves and narrow lands. The bore is bright and has been well maintained.

Stocked with a 13-3/4" trigger reach, this rifle should fit todays average size shooter well. This rifle weighs 7.7 pounds.

Stocked in English walnut with a small amount of pattern and figure in the buttstock. Noted as the Pacific Rifle Model of 1837 underhammer rifles were most common from the 1830 - 1860 period. Trimmed in steel, the buttplate shows little evidence of use at the heel, which is a common wear point on most rifles.

A sturdy 7/16" diameter hickory ramrod, with 5/16-27 threaded brass tip is carried in steel rod pipes mounted directly to the barrel.

Our top view shows the thin tapered comb of the buttstock. Made for hunting, the rear sight is a semi-buck horn rear sight dovetail mounted 7" from the breech. The front sight is a nickel silver blade, mounted in a iron dovetail base. The barrel is marked manfact'd by Pacific Rifle Co. model of 1873 and 20 bore.

Our bottom view shows the heart of this underhammer action. The hammer strikes the musket nipple which is screwed directly into the breech end of the barrel, providing direct ignition into the powder chamber, with no turns.

This ingenious action is very simple, with few moving parts, typical of Yankee Ingenuity from this period. The action is finished to a dark brown. The hammer and triggerguard, which acts as the mainspring are heat blued. The curved trigger, has excellent trigger geometry, and smooth trigger release.

Our back view shows the English walnut buttstock. This rifle is shaped without a cheek piece making it equally suited to a right or left hand shooter. Order this large bore rifle today!
