This 1635 to 1650 era flintlock pistol is patterned from an antique example excavated from the Power House site. Neatly made by contemporary builder Leonard Day the pistol is stocked in black walnut with armoury bright lock, barrel, and furniture. The grip is shaped with a slender oval profile and has considerably less drop that later pistols. The 14" barrel is octagon at the breech with a wedding band transition to round.

The pistol is assembled around a Rice .50 caliber smoothbore 14" octagon-to-round barrel. Mr. Day reports good success firing similar pistols with a .480" diameter ball, in a 0.010" greased patch, over 35 grains of FFg black powder. The off flat at the breech is stamped L. DAY by the maker. The barrel is fitted with a short straight tang, secured with a inverted tang bolt.

The bright finished flint lock was patterned from a antique and assembled by Mr. Day . The lock is a early design, possibly French of Dutch in origin. We recommend our 3/4" square knapped English flints #FLINT-ENG-6S for use in this lock. The barrel is drilled with a direct drilled vent hole well centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint musket suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

The polished cast iron buttcap is mounted with a steel screw. The triggerguard is formed from sheet and has been folded into shape and secured with tang bolt and screw. A single folded sheet iron ramrod pipe secures the ramrod to the stock. The tapered ramrod does not have any provisions for threaded accessories. This pistol has no side plate but features a long, narrow steel belt hook. The 2-3/4" wide butt cap is made of cast steel with decorative flutes.
