This modern flintlock pistol is designed for competitive flintlock pistol matches. The H. Yazel pistol feature a 9" barrel with false muzzle to load an very tight patch and ball combination, flintlock ignition, set trigger, and adjustable sights. Not designed for aesthetics, it is designed winning in competition! Wrenches and the original instruction sheet are included.

The 9" barrel is fitted with a false muzzle fitted with a blinder pin with chain. The .45 caliber bore is rifled with narrow lands and wide grooves with a fast twist, ideal for a pistol. The suggested load is a .440" diameter round ball with a 0.017" ticking patch over a charge of 15 grains of 3Fg black powder. The false muzzle was invented by the famous American telescope maker, Mr. Alvin Clark, while he was experimenting with early telescopic sight designs. It was licensed to gun maker Edwin Wesson. The false muzzle covers the muzzle, fitted with four pins, and contains a deeply chamfered crown and tapered bore to start the patched ball easily and perfectly. Once loaded, the false muzzle is removed to allow the ball to be fired from a perfectly square sharp muzzle, with no crown. A sharp muzzle is proven to give best accuracy, but is impossible to load, and easily damaged by careless handling. Notice the protruding handle, called a sight block or blinder, which alerts the shooter if he has failed to remove the false muzzle before firing. Do NOT fire with the false muzzle in place. The false muzzle must made from the barrel blank, and cut rifled as part of the barrel. A lost false muzzle cannot be replaced. This is an expensive feature, not found on lesser target guns. Although it dates from the 1840 period, it is still not allowed at some local club matches, because it provides a great advantage in accuracy over the conventional crowned muzzle.

The flintlock is designed for use with a 5/8" wide by 3/4" long flint. As with any flintlock do not fire the lock without a flint in the jaws. This lock does not have a half cock position, it is either fully cocked or fully down. The trigger is set when the lock is cocked and it is light with no creep.
