Hand made by contemporary builder Dr. Gary White this smoothbore blends Colonial American and European features. For more information on similar American fowling guns, we recommend the book Flintlock Fowlers, The First Guns Made in America , by Tom Grinslade #BOOK-FF-S. The handsome maple stock has been stained to best reveal the stripe and figure. This gun is new, unfired, with a bright bore. Weighing in at just 8.7 pounds the fowler has a trigger reach of 14-1/2" making it well suited for today's taller size shooter.

The heart of this fowler is its 20 gauge smoothbore, octagon-to-round barrel by Colerain with two wedding band transitions. Finished a dark chocolate brown, the barrel measures 42" in total length. No rear sight has been fit on the gun, only a nickel silver blade front sight sits behind the muzzle. The top flat of the breech has been signed G.B. White. This smooth bore gun is legal for use in the popular NMLRA North West Trade Gun matches, shooting bird shot at ten clay birds on the trap range, and shooting round balls at paper targets on the 50 yard range. With practice, this gun will serve a primitive deer hunter at ranges up to 100 yards.

Stocked in maple, the wood has been finished a lovely amber brown with darker stripes to best reveal the figure while creating a nice warm tone. When viewed from above the buttplate has a stepped English style comb. The comb is engraved with a stand of arms. Further up a silver thumb piece is inlet into the stock. A screw passes through the trigger plate and stock, which engages this silver thumbpiece from below. The thumbnail end of the barrel's tang has a bolt that passes through the stock to engage the trigger plate below. Four small wedge keys retain the barrel to the forearm.

From below the rounded toe of the fowler can be seen. The long triggerguard has an acorn front finial, and is secured with pins. We note there is a plugged pin hole in the stock just under the existing rear trigger guard pin. The wooden ramrod is held in position by three brass ramrod pipes, one entry and two forward. All three pipes have been polished bright. The 3/8" diameter ramrod is fitted with brass shotgun loading tip. The ramrod does not have a tip threaded to accept cleaning or loading accessories. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-44-10 to service this fowler. No muzzle cap is fitted to protect the end grain of the stock. An engraved brass sideplate is inlet into the side panel. Two lock bolts pass through the stock to engage the lock on the opposite side. No cheek is formed in fowling gun fashion.

Ignition for the fowler is provided by this Queen Ann flint lock by L&R. Expertly constructed this English style lock has strong internals, deeply browned it matches the barrel nicely and, like the barrel, stands in contrast to the lighter amber color of the wood. The lock sparks well and the frizzen only shows a few marks from being tested. The single trigger has been pinned to provide a smooth release of the lock. Behind the lock a touch hole liner has been properly installed in the "sunset" position to give the priming charge direct access to the main charge, insuring quick and reliable ignition.

This fowler is in new, unfired condition. This handsome gun will be a joy to carry during the upcoming hunting seasons this Fall. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
