This short fusil is stocked in curly cherry, trimmed in brass furniture, and features silver wire inlay accents. Fitted with a lightweight .50 caliber smoothbore barrel, this fusil would make a great boy's gun, or canoe gun. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Weighing only 5.3 pounds the fusil has a trigger reach of 12" making the gun well suited for today's smaller size shooter.

A true .50 caliber smoothbore, this gun allows the use of a patched round ball or shot. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The tapered round barrel is finished to a dark gray. The top is signed Minnich. A tall rounded brass front blade sight is fitted to the barrel. No rear sight is fitted in fowling gun fashion. This fusil is fully qualified for use in the popular North West Trade Gun match, shooting both round balls a paper targets, and clay birds thrown from a trap house, under NMLRA rules.

This fusil is stocked in curly cherry and silver wire inlay decorates both sides of the buttstock. The sweeping French style architecture of this fusil's buttstock is slim and short. The wide brass buttplate will help to spread the felt recoil from the .50 caliber smoothbore barrel. The long comb of the buttplate has sweeping curves and is lightly hand engraved. The very slim baluster wrist forms a smooth arc, and the butt blends into the wrist, typical of French architecture for muskets and fusils in this period before our French & Indian War, from 1756 to 1763, called the Seven Years War in Europe. French traders had great influence over Canada and the vast Louisiana territory, during this era. Our top view shows the breech of this French fusil with its short flared tang. The tang is surrounded by raised carving that flows into the lock panels. An oval silver inlay decorates the top of the wrist.

From below the rounded toe and brass triggerguard can be seen. The attractive triggerguard is correctly mounted with pins. The baluster wrist flared into the tapered lock panels. The wooden ramrod is retained by three brass ramrod pipes, one entry and two forward. The long pointed skirt of the ramrod entry pipe is surrounded with raised carving. The ramrod is not fitted with threaded tips to accept cleaning or loading accessories. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-36-10 to service this gun. The muzzle end of the forend, is relieved to make removing the ramrod easier and are highlighted with incised carving. The forearm is decorated with silver wire inlay ahead of the raised carved lock panels. Two lock bolts pass through the engraved sideplate and stock to engage the lock opposite.

This fusil is fitted a small Siler flint lock to provide fast ignition. This lock has a very strong mainspring, for sure-fire ignition. The lock is finished to a dark gray to match the barrel. We recommend our 5/8" English knapped flints for this trade fusil, order #FLINT-ENG-5. The trigger is pinned to provide a smooth release of the lock. The stainless steel vent liner is positioned well above the bottom of the pan and centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay. Study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
