This Lancaster County Trade Rifle rifle has the classic early 1800's styling found on trade rifles by makers such as H.E. Leman, Gibbs, Tryon and others. This rifle is stocked in maple, with brass furniture, and R.E. Davis late Ketland flintlock. This rifle has very slender shaping and is neatly fitted and finished by T. Kramer. The rifle is as-new, unfired. This rifle has a 13-1/4" pull, to fit todays average shooter. The rifle weighs 7.4 pounds.

The .40 caliber 7/8" straight octagon by 34-1/2" Colerain barrel is cut rifled with six lands and radius grooves with a slow twist for a patched round ball. The bore is bright in as-new condition. The barrel is finished to a dark brown and fitted with a brass blade front sight and semi-buck H.E. Leman style rear sight dovetailed 9-1/2" ahead of the breech.

The straight grain maple stock is stained to a warm brown. A mid 19th century steel buttplate with a gentle curve is fitted to engage the shooter's shoulder. The wrist flows back to the tapered comb in classic Lancaster County 19th century style. The buttstock is fitted with an Edward K.Tryon style capbox, often found on early trade rifles. The cap box is secured with steel screws, the slots neatly aligned. Many other builders used this same capbox since Tryon offered castings to other gunsmiths through a small catalog.

The brass toeplate is correctly mounted with iron screws. The triggerguard has a spoon like grip rail, typical of those found on H.E. Leman rifles. The triggerguard has a large bow to accommodate the single trigger. The triggerguard is correctly mounted with dowel pins in period fashion. Three short brass ramrod pipes are fitted to secure the tapered ramrod. The hidden end of the ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The single lock bolt is supported with a tear drop sideplate inlet flush with the side panel.

This rifle uses a 1820 era Ketland flint lock. The lock is finished to a gray brown. The “full waterproof pan" is made with rain gutters cut to drain any water away from the pan. The cock's jaws have been tipped down to throw sparks directly into the pan. The erect frizzen snaps over a roller bearing on the end of the frizzen spring, which is retained by an inside screw threaded into a blind hole in the bullet shaped spring finial. All features of late flintlocks. A single trigger is installed on the rifle. Correct geometry gives this rifle a very smooth trigger release.

Fast ignition is assured by the stainless vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

This handy .40 caliber flintlock rifle is as-new unfired. It has slender shaping and is very neatly fitted and finished. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
