This classic American flint longrifle is made in the style of the best Lancaster County gun makers. It is stocked in straight grain maple stained to a classic Lancaster County brown, and trimmed in brass furniture with sliding wood patchbox, and is similar to the many longrifles built before and during the American Revolution. Trigger reach is 13-5/8" to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is 7.1 pounds, and it easily balances due to the swamped barrel. This rifle is used with a mellow patina on the brass and a speckled patina on the bright finished lock and barrel.

A Colerain 38" swamped .40 caliber barrel serves as the heart of the rifle, finished bright the barrel has naturally aged to silvery gray brown with darker speckling at the breech. Cut rifled with six round bottom grooves with a 1 in 48" twist for patched round balls. The bore is bright, clean, and has been well maintained. The barrel is fitted with a brass blade front sight and a flat top rear sight with serpent finial is dovetailed 10-1/2" ahead of the breech.

The dense maple stock of this long rifle has modest figure, but the clean crisp carving is the best decorative feature of this rifle. The stock has raised carving around the lock panels with incised carving defining the front edge of the comb. Additional incised carving can be found from the toe to triggerguard, forearm, and along the ramrod channel. All the lines are well done with a smooth cuts and even line width. The brass furniture is well fitted. This graceful early Lancaster County rifle features a tapered comb that ends in a wide buttplate. The buttstock is fitted with a sliding wood patchbox, simply compress the spring toward the lid and slide it toward the buttplate to reveal cut cavity. The cavity has a hinged plate mounted to the front lower edge. The flared tang of the breech plug is surrounded by a raised beaver tail panel. Two lock bolts stand above the brass sideplate. The lock panels are surrounded by a raise carved skirt. The cheek piece tapers wider at the rear, to recoil away from your cheek, with heavy loads.

The bottom view shows the triggerguard, which is correctly mounted with two pins, no screws. The triggerguard is filed with crisp flats, which only hand filing and finishing achieve. The ramrod is fitted through three brass ramrod pipes with ringed ends and paneled bodies. The muzzle end is shaped with a flared Schnabel end with no muzzle cap fitted. The 3/8" diameter ramrod is fitted with a brass tip with 8-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. The large brass sideplate fills the side panel in Germanic fashion. The sideplate is shaped with sweeping curves and a molding across the tail. A incised carved line forms a molding from the trigger to the toe, creating a slimming effect.

The rifle is fitted with a large Siler flintlock. This lock is modeled after a fine hand made original lock by the famous American gunmaker, Jacob Dickert. This lock captures the styling used on many American longrifles. Most flint locks were imported from England or Europe, for use by American gunmakers. The Germanic styling is evident with a octagon pan, and pointed tail. Aged to the same speckled patina as the barrel, the lock plate has a hand forged appearance and fits perfectly with the rest of the rifle. Tuned for best performance, this lock is fitted with a heavy mainspring, for fast lock time and best sparking. Order a few of our 3/4" English gun flints, #FLINT-ENG-6 too. The single trigger is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear. A direct drilled vent hole is positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

We recommend this simple and attractive Lancaster County longrifle rifle for the Revolutionary War volunteer, seeking a suitable gun for militia duty. It has a used appearance on the exterior with a bright well maintained bore. The parts are well fitted and the minimal decoration is well executed. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
