Loading Blocks for patched round balls

This is a Primitive Rifleman's ball loading block, shaped like a miniature "bread board". Made of hard maple, it is drilled with six holes, to snugly hold your lubricated patched round balls.

Before hunting, grease your patch, center it over a hole, press the ball into the patch, and seat it into the hole using a short starter. Push it until the ball protrudes below. This protruding bulge can be quickly centered on the muzzle, and the patched ball rammed home with the starter.

These popular calibers can be easily enlarged to fit larger calibers, by enlarging each undersize hole with a round file, chainsaw file, or sandpaper wrapped around a slotted dowel.

You can use this loading block as-is, or finish it with stain and gunstock finish. If used as-is, the maple will quickly absorb dirt, black powder residue, fingerprints, and patch lubricant. After one or two seasons, it will resemble a worn original.

Or, stain the maple to match your powder horn, or to match your rifle, using any of our popular stock stains. Then seal the wood with our oil finish, varnish, or Permalyn sealer.

Tie it to your powder horn or pouch, using the lanyard loop and our leather lacing. Suspend the brass powder measure of your choice on the lanyard.
