This British cartridge box design was patented by William Rawle. The cartridge box is made from heavy black leather, with a brass stud to secure the flap down. A additional pocket is located beneath the main flap. About 8-3/4" wide, 6-1/2" tall, and 3" deep. The rear has a cross strap, and the bottom has two iron buckles mounted to secure a shoulder strap. Inside is a wood bock with holes for 36 cartridges, 18 per side.

The wood block is drilled with 3/4" diameter holes, 18 per side, for paper cartridges. Each side of the block has a leather flap to provide a extra layer of weather protection. The leather flap is secured with small iron nails. The bottom flap has a long leather tongue linen stitched on. This allows the user to keep the bottom flap securely down, keeping the paper cartridges in place, while the block is withdrawn and reversed.

The rear has a cross strap, and the bottom has two iron buckles mounted to secure a shoulder strap. We offer shoulder straps sold separately. Details of how to properly affix the shoulder strap to the cartridge box can be found on the strap page.

The Rawl's 1777 patent cartridge box bottom has two iron buckles mounted to secure a shoulder strap. We recommend our 72" long, 2" wide shoulder strap to hang this well made cartridge box.
