Tap, high carbon steel, 8-32 thread, plug tap.
Be sure to order our
#DRILL-29 tap drill for 8-32 threads, and our
#DRILL-16 clearance drill to allow an 8-32 screw to slip through the hole in the sideplate, tang, and stock.
Use our
taper tap to most easily start and tap a "through hole".
Use our
plug tap to start and tap most through holes, and all blind holes (for tumbler screws, et cetera). Many gunsmiths use our plug tap to start and thread all holes.
Use our
bottom tap to finish the bottom threads in a blind hole, after starting the threads with our plug tap.
Always use our High Carbon Steel taps for gunsmithing. If accidentally broken, they can easily be removed, by using a flat end punch to fracture the broken tip. If using common HSS High Speed Steel taps, sold elsewhere at higher prices, a broken tap must be removed using and expensive EDM tap burner. Avoid HSS taps for gunsmithing.
