This near new Remington Rolling Block Sporting Rifle, by Davide Pedersoli, has a perfect bore, with bright clean rifling. Stocked in walnut, the buttstock has a nice amount of pattern. The buttstock is shaped with a checkered pistol grip. The checkered forearm has a Schnabel tip. The action is finished bright with contrasting blued hammer, double triggers, buttplate, and barrel. A Davidd Pedersoli 1874 tang sight, and globe sight to accept inserts is included. Gently used we found a few small handling marks in the stock varnish.

Our front view shows the Sporting Rifle buttplate, single trigger, and classic appearance of the Remington Number 1 Rolling Block Action, as replicated by Davide Pedersoli. Much stronger than a Trapdoor Springfield, the factory recommends shooting factory ammunition. We prefer black powder hand loads, for economy, accuracy, compliance with club match rules, and the pleasure of doing it the old way.

Chambered for the popular .45-70 Government cartridge. The round barrel is 30" tapering to 7/8" at the muzzle, with a slightly recessed crown at the muzzle.The barrel mounted rear sight is a step adjustable iron sight with a square notch. A Davide Pedersoi Vernier tang sight and globe front sight to accept inserts is included with this rifle.

Our top view shows the comb of the Sporting Rifle buttplate. The Number 1 action has a grooved face on the hammer spur and breech block spur. The tang is drilled and tapped for a Vernier tang sight. The three blind screws are spaced for both a 1.51" base, and 2.26" sight base.

The front sight is a blued steel blade with integral base in standard 3/8" dovetail.. If you add the tang sight we recommend you also install the globe front sight to accept interchangeable aperture inserts.

Our bottom view shows the walnut stock with pistol grip, and bright finished action. The very bottom edge of the triggerguard has some speckles of patina.

This nice single shot rifle has a strong mainspring. The hammer and breech block are blued steel. No tell-tale rotary scratches or wear can be seen on the breech block or hammer, which would indicate a lot of use.

Rather than the standard military trigger this rifle is fitted with double lever double set triggers. The trigger can be fired from the set, or unset position. Use the small adjustment screw between the triggers to adjust the front trigger pressure in the set position.

We stock the bullet mold, cases, dies, shell holder, and loading tools, all at low cost.

Made with near perfect symmetry, only the finger spur of the breech block is offset to the right. Thus, this rifle is equally comfortable for a right or left hand shooter.

We stock .45-70 dies. We strongly prefer black powder handloads, and especially the 500 grain original U. S. Army - Frankfort Arsenal bullet, now known as the Lyman 457-125 bullet. We recommend 500 grain cast lead alloy bullets, sized to fit the grooves, with SPG lubricant, over our thin card wad. You can easily assemble your own cartridges using our inexpensive reloading tools and molds. The bore is clean and bright, in perfect condition.

This rifle will require load development, and fine tuning, for serious target competition. We enjoy casting bullets, hand loading black powder cartridges, and enjoyable afternoons at our local 100, 200, 400, and 600 yard range.
