This antique flint box lock pistol is signed by J & W Richards and London on opposite sides of the lock. This pistol was proof tested in London, and the bottom of the barrel is marked with the appropriate view and proof marks. Pistols of this design popular and were manufactured from the mid 1700's into the 1800's..

Our top view shows the slim width of this easily concealed pistol. It has a overall length of 7-1/4". The lever behind the cock slides forward to lock the cock at half-cock. It must be manually retracted to bring the cock back to the full cock position.

The triggerguard is engraved with a flower design. Three proof marks are stamped at the bottom of the breech. The tiny extended lug, at the breech end of the barrel, is made to accept a slotted ring wrench which is included with this pistol.

The . 430" diameter bore has a larger chamber at the threaded face of the action. A oversize ball was loaded naked, not patched. The high compression gives this tiny pistol great power.

The walnut grips have many small handling marks and pressure dents, but no cracks of chips. All the metal on this small pistol has aged to a salt and pepper finish.

The barrel is 2-1/4" long, including the powder chamber in the breech. The bore is bright and smooth. The frizzen sparks well. The lock has a secure half cock and smooth trigger release. The sliding safety snaps firmly into place.
